WYTHALL HISTORY SOCIETY was started in 1993 by Val Lewis, who was its first Secretary.
The Society obtained a Lottery Grant to purchase the necessary equipment to process its records, and a further Grant which enabled research into “The Impact of the Two World Wars on Wythall”. This resulted in an exhibition at Wythall Library during October 2011. The contents are now being used in local schools.
The village dates from AD47 and includes the following hamlets:- Barn Hill, Bateman's Green, Drakes Cross, Forshaw Heath, Forhill, Fulford Heath, Gay Hill, Headley Heath, Hollywood, Inkford, Kingswood, Majors Green, Red Hill, Shaw Brook, Tanners Green, Truemans Heath, Weatheroak, Withwood, Wythall(Chapel Green) and Wythall Heath.
Society research includes information obtained from original Tythe lists, 1772 Enclosures, 1838 Tythe Map and Census lists.
There is a Village Index recording everyone born in the village since 1750.
The Society meets on the last Friday in each month at 7.30pm. (except July, August and December), at the Village Hall (Wythall Institute). This can be found on Alcester Road between Chapel Drive and Wythall Roundabout.. (Parking is available at the rear of the building). At each meeting a visiting speaker gives a talk of historical interest followed by refreshments. Details may be found on our Future Meetings page.
The annual Membership Fee is £15.00. Visitors are asked to pay £2.50 per meeting.
